In this video I filmed my teacher Duyet Thi Trang playing Dan Tranh in his home yard. The piece is called « Song of Dragonfly », a folksong from central Vietnam which goes like this: « The dragonfly is stuck in a spider web. By chance we have got ourselves into this entanglement.. why dont we just embrace the love of each other » Most of Vietnamese folklore sings about embracing love despite of faiths and destiny. As my teacher often says: « The language of love is unspeakable. The louder you say, the more deafened you are. The heart speaks without words. In Dan Tranh the right hand plucks the string to create the different musical notes, hence the right hand playing speaks up our logical mind. But our true heart’s voice is in the left hand which is pressing the string in sophisticated manner and create gives meaning to the notes with various emotions such as pain, joy, love, anger..  » Vào một buổi chiều đang ngồi gióng dây chờ cộ học trò thức dậy luyện công. Ngước nhìn thấy con chuồn chuồn mắc phải lưới nhện mà chợt nhớ đến câu ca dao :“Chuồn chuồn mắc phải nhện vương. Trót đà dan díu thì thương nhau cùng”.Thì ra nàng đã thức dậy tự bao giờ, ngồi khuất sau tàu lá để ghi lại hình thầy đang dạo đàn. Hôm nay nhận được đường dẫn trên Youtube của Phan Ly mà giật mình.
